Twitter cancels free access to its API

Last month Twitter suspended free access to its API, which means that hundreds of applications would have to shut down. Those include even very useful applications like analytics and management tools, scheduling services, etc. The platform offers paid access instead and is going to charge those apps for that. Big businesses have already paid for full access, but most probably they will stop providing free services for their users. A bunch of posting tools will stop existing. Twitter is also looking to eradicate bots, but, on the other hand, it may reduce engagement. And some platform competitors can eventually switch to other platforms.

And that’s good since the platform has been criticized for its outdated format. This means that you can now integrate more visual elements into your profile. The Activity section of your profile will show your activity in a more engaging way. The user gets an option to choose the type of content (images, newsletter, videos) that is shown first. This feature became available for all users by the end of the month. That is probably a good way to prompt people to update their profiles. What’s more, LinkedIn extends the scheduling feature to newsletters to let users reach the targeted audience to get optimal engagement.
