Meta implements AI technologies
Meta is rolling out its next-level generative AI assistant across Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger. Users will now have access to Meta’s advanced AI chat engine directly from the search bar in each app. Powered by Meta Llama 3, this AI assistant allows users to pose conversational queries and search the web for relevant information, adding context to their discussions. Although Meta previously introduced a similar AI-based assistant called M bot, it didn’t gain much traction and was eventually shut down in 2018. However, Meta is confident that its new Llama 3 engine will make this feature far more useful and valuable to users.

Facebook updates algorithm
Facebook is adopting a TikTok-like vertical video format, with all videos on the app now displayed in Fullscreen vertical mode. Users can still watch videos in landscape mode by flipping their phones. Along with the new format, Facebook is introducing simplified reaction controls, improved video scanning features, and enhanced video recommendations based on user interests. Meta aims to boost Reels content, promising increased visibility for engaging videos, while also advising against simply reposting content from other platforms without editing.

Threads offers a bonus
Meta is offering financial incentives to high-profile creators to post on its Threads app, with payouts of up to $5,000 for posts that receive over 10,000 views. The program is invitation-only, and creators selected by Meta will receive notifications and invitations through the Instagram app. This move aims to further promote Threads, following Meta’s recent partnerships with celebrities and sports teams. The company has also increased the payout amounts and view requirements for the program. With Threads gaining 20 million users since February, Meta hopes these incentives will drive further growth, aiming to catch up to rival apps like X, which currently has 550 million monthly active users.

Is AirChat getting anywhere soon?
Airchat is a voice + text network, similar to Twitter, but with the addition of voice for every post. While it looks good and incorporates elements of successful platforms like Clubhouse and Twitter, it’s unlikely to catch on at a significant scale. Most people prefer not to use their voice to create content, as seen with the eventual downfall of Clubhouse. While audio can add more context, most users are not inclined to post in this way. Additionally, users can already create similar content on more popular platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, YouTube, and TikTok, which offer auto-caption features and more presentation tools. Moreover, running audio/video networks like Airchat is costly, and even if it sees success, it’s likely to face competition from larger platforms that can easily replicate its features. In the past, apps like Clubhouse, BeReal, Peach, and others struggled to scale, facing challenges from rising competition. Therefore, Airchat may face a similar fate in the long run.
