We are back with our monthly digest. Some updates are already here and some of them are going to be rolled out, but we are giving you a heads-up so you can get ready for them.

WhatsApp adds new ways to engage with customers

Meta is introducing new business features on WhatsApp, including paid broadcasts. The new feature allows brands to promote offers to users who have previously interacted with them. Users can decline those promotional messages and mark themselves as “Not interested”. What’s more, there is an option to opt out entirely, giving them more control over what they receive. Additionally, Meta will monitor user feedback and limit daily message frequency to ensure quality and avoid overwhelming inboxes.

The goal is to maintain a helpful, expected communication experience, not one filled with spam-like ads. Therefore, the updates could boost monetization efforts while keeping user satisfaction a priority. WhatsApp’s large user base presents opportunities, but Meta is being cautious to maintain trust while expanding business engagement.

Bye-bye, Skype!

Starting in May 2025, Microsoft will discontinue Skype for both free and paid users, though Skype for Business remains unaffected. Therefore, users are encouraged to switch to Microsoft Teams Free, which retains familiar Skype functions and adds new ones. When you log into Microsoft Teams Free using your Skype credentials, your existing contacts and chat history will transfer automatically. The prompt in the Skype app will guide you through the process.

Nevertheless, if you choose not to make the move, you have the option to export your Skype data. Following the discontinuation, the Skype Dial Pad will remain available through the web or Teams Free for current paying users. Unfortunately, new purchases of Skype Credit or subscription plans will no longer be offered.

Instagram Unveils ‘Edits’ Video App

Finally, Instagram has officially launched its new video editing app called ‘Edits’, designed as an all-in-one platform for creators. ‘Edits’ offers tools like multi-channel editing, project management, note-taking for video ideas, access to trending Reels and audio, and the ability to record clips up to 10 minutes long. In addition, it also includes advanced video effects like green screen, cutouts, and AI-powered animation, with exports available watermark-free.

Additionally, extra features such as keyframes, AI-generated backgrounds, and collaborative tools are in development, alongside new text styles, effects, and transitions. While the app is free at launch, Instagram may introduce charges for certain AI features due to high computational costs. LinkedIn Launches Qualified Lead Optimization for More Targeted Ads

LinkedIn has introduced a new feature designed to enhance lead generation by allowing businesses to define what qualifies as a high-quality lead based on their own internal criteria. This new tool can now be applied to campaigns using the Lead Generation objective. As a result, by connecting your CRM or offline sources to LinkedIn through the Conversions API, companies can share detailed lead information. Hence, this enables LinkedIn’s algorithm to target individuals who resemble these ideal prospects.

As advertisers supply LinkedIn with ongoing lead data, the system refines its targeting, increasing the chances of reaching valuable audiences. While this feature may raise the average cost per lead and require a two-week adjustment period, early reports suggest it can lower the cost per qualified lead by as much as 39%. Marketers can manually upload their data or use third-party tools to sync, provided the information is submitted within 30 days to stay effective for campaign tuning.
