June Social Media Digest 2025

Summary

Instagram has added a teleprompter and Reels insights to improve video creation. LinkedIn launched new video ad formats and CTV partnerships for better brand exposure. X removed hashtags from promoted posts, focusing on cleaner ad design. These updates reflect a shift toward high-quality video and simplified marketing tools across platforms.

Knowledge is power. Amidst summer haze, Social Media is still evolving; therefore, you need to be armed with information to keep abreast of the new trends.

Instagram Edits Gets Major Update With Teleprompter and Reels Insights

Instagram is rolling out a teleprompter feature to all users of its Edits video app, allowing creators to upload scripts that scroll just below the front-facing camera. This helps improve eye contact and natural delivery, with adjustable text speed and size for added flexibility.

Also new is a Reels insights panel showing the top 10 recent videos by views, plus minor overlay updates. These additions build on Edits’ growing toolkit—already packed with fonts, filters, beat markers, cropping tools, and audio controls. With AI-powered features like background editing and animation on the way, Edits is fast becoming Instagram’s answer to CapCut. Available now on iOS and Android.

LinkedIn Expands Video Advertising

As video becomes increasingly central to LinkedIn engagement, the platform is introducing new ad formats to enhance visibility and impact. Among them, ‘First Impression Ads’ ensure your vertical video is the first ad a user sees upon login, offering prime exposure for key campaigns. Similarly, ‘Reserved Ads’ guarantee premium placement for Sponsored Content like Thought Leader Ads and Document Ads, maximizing brand presence. Expanding its Connected TV (CTV) Select offerings, LinkedIn now includes Paramount alongside NBCUniversal, allowing advertisers to tap into premium streaming audiences using LinkedIn’s professional targeting.

The integration of VAST tags, powered by Innovid, improves ad compatibility across devices and environments, boosting performance. Additionally, LinkedIn’s collaboration with Sprinklr enables campaign management via its CTV API, while a partnership with Adobe Express provides ready-to-use video templates tailored for the platform. Altogether, these innovations reflect LinkedIn’s push to support marketers in leveraging video more effectively across channels.

X bans hashtags

Reflecting Elon Musk’s design preferences more than a calculated marketing shift, X (formerly Twitter) is eliminating hashtags from ads, labeling them an “esthetic nightmare.” While it may seem abrupt, the platform’s former ad team had long advised against hashtags in promoted posts, arguing they distract users from intended actions like clicking links or following accounts.

Still, the decision to completely eliminate them removes the option for branded or campaign-specific tags that could serve broader promotional goals. It’s not the first design-driven change under Musk—his previous attempt to strip function buttons from posts in favor of gestures was also rolled back after testing. As with other Musk-led shifts, the ban is unlikely to have a major impact, but it reinforces his hands-on, often aesthetic-first approach to platform design.
