August Social Media Digest 2025

Summary

The August Social Media Digest highlights Meta’s AI-powered ad updates, LinkedIn’s new analytics, WhatsApp’s call tools, and Instagram’s Reels metrics.

Even though we just waved goodbye to summer, some social media giants are already preparing for the holiday season. There are some useful updates that marketers could potentially use to boost their sales through the merriest time of the year.

 Meta gets ready for holidays

Meta has introduced new ad tools powered by its AI targeting to help brands improve holiday campaigns. Therefore, businesses can now search for creators in Instagram’s Creator Marketplace using expanded language and region filters, making it easier to find the right partners. As a result, partnership ads are also being upgraded with catalog matching, “Show Products” optimization, and creator testimonials, providing more ways to showcase items and build trust.

Meta is also testing shoppable Reels ads that automatically pull products from catalogs, while carousel ads on Instagram will now support catalog videos. Advertisers can also add more details to Reels ads through a new swipe-up option. These updates are designed to boost engagement, simplify ad creation, and align with growing video consumption on Meta’s platforms.

LinkedIn updates analytics

LinkedIn has introduced a new update to post analytics that provides rolling notifications on how posts are performing. Users will now receive updates on profile views, follower growth, and impressions at set intervals, such as three and seven days after publishing. The feature is designed to give members a clearer view of how their content continues to reach audiences over time.

This builds on LinkedIn’s analytics refresh launched earlier this year, which added insights into profile activity, link engagement, and other post-level data. Hence, by surfacing key performance metrics directly in notifications, LinkedIn aims to make it easier for users to track impact without manually checking analytics.

The update also supports the platform’s broader push to attract and retain creators by offering more detailed tools to measure engagement. While frequent alerts could become excessive, notification settings allow users to manage update frequency as needed.

WhatsApp launches new tools

WhatsApp has introduced new tools to make collaboration easier. Users can now schedule calls directly in the “Calls” tab, invite groups ahead of time, and even add links to their calendars. Eventually, this update helps organize group conversations and could turn WhatsApp into a stronger option for meetings. When a call is about to start, participants receive reminders so nobody misses out.

During group calls, members can “raise a hand” to show they’d like to contribute, similar to features on Zoom or X Spaces. Moreover, emoji reactions have also been added, giving people quick ways to respond in real time. In addition, call link creators now get alerts when someone joins, making it easier to track attendance. Altogether, these features position WhatsApp as a more practical choice for both casual and professional group discussions.

 Instagram updates Reels Metrics

Instagram is rolling out new metrics for Reels creators, giving more detailed insights into how audiences interact with content. A new Retention chart now shows when viewers drop off during playback, helping creators spot which moments keep attention and which cause disengagement. While every chart will slope downward, Instagram notes that a flatter line signals stronger engagement. Alongside this, the platform is replacing the old View Rate with a new Skip Rate metric. Instead of tracking who stayed past three seconds, Skip Rate highlights how many users left within those first seconds, offering a clearer sign of whether your hook is strong enough.

These updates, combined with other performance tools released earlier this month, aim to help creators refine their openings, maintain interest, and ultimately improve overall performance. By analyzing dips, skips, and retention trends, creators can better tailor content to keep audiences watching.
