December Social Media Digest 2025

The December 2025 Social Media Digest highlights key platform updates shaping digital strategy in 2026. It covers YouTube’s expanded A/B testing for titles and thumbnails, Facebook’s redesigned feed and improved algorithm controls, and Instagram’s new five-hashtag limit to reduce spam and improve discovery. Together, these updates reflect a growing focus on relevance, engagement, and data-driven optimization across major social platforms.

Whatever happens, we are here with the latest updates. They are ready for you to go through and refine your marketing strategy in 2026.

YouTube Rolls Out Title and Thumbnail A/B Testing to All Creators

YouTube is expanding its creator tools by rolling out thumbnail and title A/B testing to all creators with access to Advanced Features. This feature is aimed at making it easier to optimize video performance. Creators can now test up to three title variations alongside thumbnail options, with YouTube selecting winners based on watch time rather than click-through rate to prioritize viewer engagement. As AI image generators make thumbnail creation faster, this data-driven testing approach gives creators clearer insights into what drives sustained views.

At the same time, YouTube TV is adding C-SPAN to its content lineup, allowing viewers to follow congressional proceedings directly within the app. This move also includes YouTube sponsoring C-SPAN’s upcoming “America 250” programming, launching next year. In addition, YouTube is introducing new seasonal gifting stickers for vertical live-streams, available to gift-enabled creators through March 20.

Facebook Updates Feed Design and Algorithm to Boost Relevance and Discovery

Facebook is rolling out a series of feed design and algorithm updates aimed at making the platform more relevant and immersive for users. To start, multi-image posts will now appear in a standardized grid, with simplified tap and double-tap actions. That allows users to like images and view content in full screen. At the same time, Meta is reorganizing the Facebook tab bar so frequently used features like Reels, Friends, Marketplace, and Profile are easier to access.

In addition, Facebook is revamping search results with a more visual, grid-based layout that supports all content types and aligns with full-screen discovery trends. The platform is also testing a new full-screen search viewer that lets users browse photo and video results without losing their place.

Finally, Facebook is introducing new in-feed feedback options that allow users to fine-tune their algorithm preferences by signaling why certain posts aren’t relevant, giving the platform clearer insight into individual content interests.

Instagram Limits Hashtags to Five Per Post to Reduce Spam and Improve Discovery

Instagram is introducing a new hashtag restriction that limits posts and Reels to a maximum of five hashtags, as part of its broader effort to reduce spam and improve content discovery. The platform says hashtags no longer play the same role they once did, with AI-driven recommendations now guiding what users see in their feeds.

However, targeted hashtags can still help categorize content, which is why Instagram is encouraging fewer, more relevant tags. After testing stricter limits over the past year, Instagram has settled on five hashtags per post as the new standard.

According to Instagram, using up to five focused hashtags can improve both post performance and the overall user experience. This change aligns with Meta’s wider approach to tagging, seen most clearly on Threads, where tags are even more limited.
