July Social Media Digest 2022

August introduced several valuable updates for marketers and creators. Meta launched a music revenue-sharing program, Instagram expanded Reels features, LinkedIn added native carousel posts, Twitter enabled users to remove themselves from conversations, TikTok improved ad safety controls, and YouTube enhanced Shorts analytics and creator insights. These updates help brands increase engagement, improve content performance, and strengthen their social media strategies.

We are enjoying the last months of summer while media giants are working to improve users’ experience, help brands get more exposure, and sell as many goods as possible. These are the hottest summer Social Media updates of the last month.

Meta offers new music options

In August, Meta launched the Music Revenue Sharing Program. This new feature allows creators to add music to their videos, while rights holders get their interests. Videos make up half of the time on the app, while music rights and their limitations have always been a pain for creators. This update expands users’ access to music, though the videos will have to meet the requirements of the monetization policy either way. A licensed music library will contain all the music available for this purpose. Music Revenue Sharing Program is available in the US and will soon be rolled out globally.

Instagram rolls out new features

Instagram Reels keeps expanding new features. To promote this format, Instagram now provides wider access to template options if you are not sure what exactly you want to post there. This option is accessible through the Reels camera, where you can choose a format among the ones that are popular right now. The new feature provides more creativity to those users who lack it. Instagram is also going to recommend a music background for your videos based on your uploads to make them more engaging.

LinkedIn added a Carousel posting option

LinkedIn turned its individual frames into the Carousel post option. Some users can now see this option within the post creation process. You can choose from a variety of pictures or videos and then add some text. Actually, users have been utilizing the option of posting PDF files for some time before. But it turns out that carousel posts get more clicks and exposure. So this new functionality will probably be rolled out to all users.

Twitter allows users to take control of their mentions

Last month all Twitter users were allowed to unmention themselves from the conversation they did not feel comfortable participating in. The new option is available on all devices. If you unmentioned yourself from the chat, your username will be tagged; other users won’t be able to tag you again within this conversation, and you will no longer receive notifications, though your name will still be visible in a text format. The primary objective of this update is to prevent you from losing control over the context and let you distance yourself from an unwanted one.

TikTok improves Ad safety on the Platform

The new updates are aimed at providing more control for brands to ensure the safety of their Ads. In other words, the new ‘Inventory Filter’ helps to control the content that appears alongside the brands’ ads. This option, based on machine learning, is built into TikTok Ads Manager and is available in 25 countries and in 15+ languages. The uploaded content can be placed in three categories (each providing a different level of security): Full, Standard, and Limited.

YouTube rolls out new changes

The Media Giant is striving to help creators maximize their presence on the platform. That is why YouTube improved the Shorts analytics so that it became similar to other analytics tools on the app. The new display provides tons of useful data much quicker than the previous one. YouTube Studio also got ‘See more’ which gives you an option to see new or returning viewers. These new stats provide more information on how your viewers respond to your content. The platform also updated ‘YouTube for artists’ to help artists and songwriters maximize their presence.
